GETTING TO KNOW ONIRA
December 29th, 2016
Meet Jessica Lemarie-Pirés; the woman behind the brand. Find out all about her inspiration, motivation and personal journey to discovery.
What was your vision for Onira?
Born from a desire to adopt a healthier way of living; that respects the earth and its resources, I created Onira Organics in response to my dream of finding luxurious, natural, organic and effective hair products that did not defy my environmental beliefs. (FYI: It was pretty impossible. Until now.)
What inspired you to embrace a more organic, conscious approach to life?
After I had my third child, my perspective on life altered; I decided it was time for a change. Goodbye toxins, chemicals and ununiformed choices; hello healthy, nutritious, organic goodness.
I had changed my diet and exercise routine, and so naturally, the next step for me was to look to hair and skincare to see what environmentally conscious, effective changes I could make there. Immediately, I noticed that there were no hair care brands to fit with my new, clean, lifestyle. And there, my dream of creating Onira Organics was born.
In my research, I developed a new philosophy; dedicated to finding the true beauty of hair, that I was eager to share.
This philosophy involves ditching the most common chemicals found in hair products today: parabens, silicones, sulphates and PEGs (I’ll tell you more about those, and how evil they are, another time – don’t worry!), ensuring that none of our ingredients have been tested on animals, sourcing a sustainable, natural line of core supplements to build the Onira range around, and designing luxurious, innovative beauty rituals that can fit into a busy lifestyle.
(Clean beauty junkies rejoice: FINALLY, a haircare brand built upon ethical foundations; creating pure, organic products that really work…)
What is your personal hair routine ?
Typically, I wash my hair twice a week, using The Natural Shampoo.
Because I have been using Onira Organics for such a long time now, I don’t really need to incorporate treatments into my haircare routine very often; my hair in the best condition it’s ever been. I used to apply The Conditioner on my hair after cleansing but having used Onira Organics for a few years now, I just don’t need to detangle anymore… I still do one treatment a month though, where I combine The Mask and The Serum in The Shaker and apply the mixture to my dry hair, before washing, just to give it an extra nourishing boost.
As my hair is so natural now, it is also easy to style. I don’t use any special styling products; I just let my hair dry naturally after I’ve washed it and embrace its true character. I used to have rather flat hair, which was really hard to style, but since I am using Onira Organics I rediscovered the beautiful curls I had when I was 20!
Why ‘Onira’ ?
I didn’t only choose the name because it sounds pretty, honest! Onira means ‘Dream’ in Greek… and I have a very close bond to my Greek heritage, so the logical move for me was to take inspiration from my native islands, and love of the ocean, for my premiere collection and for its name as well. (see, we told you it wasn’t just because it sounded pretty! That’s definitely an added bonus though!)
Why is Tahitian Ginger so special to the Onira range ?
My research for Onira led me to French Polynesia; where I discovered a Polynesian flower extract known as ‘Ginger Shampoo’. When blended with Monoi, this extract possesses exceptional nourishing and repairing properties; a beauty secret passed down through generations of South Pacific Island women. And now a beauty secret passed down from me, to you. This blend, that we call Tahitian Ginger, sits right at the heart of the brand and all Onira Organics products.
I was determined to make a natural, luxurious haircare experience, that didn’t cut into my busy schedule of being a mother, business woman and model; I sought out formulas that were naturally high performance and guaranteed results. Now, having achieved all that I set out to do, I am so proud to share my dream, Onira, with you.
Welcome to the Onira Organics family.
